A solemn swearing-in ceremony for 28 new members of the Pontifical Swiss Guard took place at the Vatican in the presence of Pope Leo XIV. Held on May 6, the ceremony honors the historic sacrifice of 147 Swiss Guards who died defending Pope Clement VII during the Sack of Rome. The recruits undergo a series of tests to demonstrate their ability to protect the Holy Father at all times before being formally sworn in as members of the world’s oldest and smallest army. EWTN Vatican journalist Magdalena Wolinska Riedi reports on the ceremony.
