The Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq, Cardinal Louis Raphaël Sako, is stepping down after 13 years in the position. He submitted his resignation to Pope Leo, saying he wishes to "dedicate himself to prayer, writing, and simple service." The Pope has accepted his resignation. Last May, Cardinal Sako made history as the first Chaldean Catholic Patriarch to participate in a papal conclave.
