Pope Leo began one of the busiest liturgical periods of the year by celebrating Palm Sunday Mass. At the Vatican, Holy Thursday at St. Peter’s Basilica begins with the Chrism Mass, where oils are blessed for use throughout the year. He will later celebrate the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at the Basilica of St. John Lateran. On Good Friday, the Holy Father will preside over a service for the Lord’s Passion at St. Peter’s Basilica and later lead the Stations of the Cross at the Colosseum. He will celebrate the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night at St. Peter’s Basilica, and on Easter Sunday, Pope Leo will celebrate Mass in St. Peter’s Square before delivering his traditional “Urbi et Orbi” blessing to the city of Rome and to the world. The celebrations will conclude on Easter Monday with the Regina Caeli prayer at the Apostolic Palace. EWTN Vatican journalist Bénédicte Cedergen has more.
