In the United States each year, one million parents will lose a child to miscarriage. More than half will seek help from medical staff who have not been adequately trained to address the emotional toll and grief. Now, the Institute of Reproductive Grief Care is providing education and resources to healthcare professionals, enabling them to deliver compassionate grief care and reduce emotional trauma. The Institute’s Dr. Michaelene Fredenburg says it is working on a five-question screener tool designed to detect complicated grief reactions after early pregnancy loss.
