St. Christina of Tyre is one of the most inspiring virgin martyrs of the early Church. Born into a wealthy pagan family during the 3rd century, Christina was destined by her father, the governor Urban, to become a pagan priestess. Instead, after contemplating the beauty of creation and seeking its Creator, she came to believe in the one true God.

After an angel revealed Jesus Christ to her, Christina destroyed the idols placed before her and boldly confessed the Christian faith. Her courageous witness led to terrible persecutions: she endured imprisonment, beatings, the fiery wheel, drowning, imprisonment, a blazing furnace, and many other tortures. Yet God repeatedly preserved her life through miraculous interventions, leading hundreds of witnesses to embrace Christianity.

Eventually, after converting many to Christ through her steadfast faith, St. Christina received the crown of martyrdom by the sword.

Her life reminds us that no earthly power can overcome a soul wholly devoted to Christ.
