Frank Wright argues this is not a pastoral development—it is part of what he calls a "liberal state religion," where climate activism, open borders, mass migration, humanism, and equality are elevated into ideological beliefs that compete with traditional Christianity.

Wright contends that the emphasis on "integral human development" and humanism risks shifting the Church's focus away from the kingship of Christ and the supernatural order toward a human-centered vision of society. These ideas, he argues, are connected to a broader international liberal project that seeks to move society beyond traditional national, cultural, and religious identities.

But this political and ideological order is weakening. As American leadership of the international liberal system declines, Wright predicts that continued attachment to these ideas could eventually appear as outdated as support for communism after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Church risks tying itself to a passing political and cultural movement rather than maintaining its traditional Catholic identity. The warning is clear: the Vatican is embracing a religion of the world. And the world is passing away. The Church must return to Christ—or be swept away with the ideology it has embraced.
