Saint Steven was a monastic and hymnographer who lived the ascetic life at the Lavra of St. Sava in Palestine. Alongside Andrew the Blind, he was among the first to compose hymns (idiomela) for the period between the Publican and the Pharisee and Palm Sunday — a key part of the Lenten Triodion tradition.

Although his name is similar, this saint is not the same St. Steven commemorated on July 13. His work continues to inspire the faithful through the beauty and depth of his hymnography.
