Glory to Jesus Christ! — Glory forever. Slava Isusu!
On the Sunday before the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, we “hold high the Cross” — the sign of our salvation and the remedy for the snakebite of sin.

This homily opens with a powerful World War II story from Dachau: a Catholic seminarian risks his life to protect and repair a roadside cross. From there we look to Scripture: the bronze serpent in Numbers 21:4–9 that foreshadows the Cross; the Gospel’s “great fact, great act, and great compact” in John 3:16–17; and Galatians 6:16 on the “Israel of God.” Christ, though sinless, “looks like” a sinner on the Cross to heal us from sin’s venom. The Church — with her altar, priesthood, and King — calls us to lift high the Cross in our churches, homes, and daily lives.
