Mor Ignatius Aphrem II is the Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, which has several million members worldwide. When Pope Leo XIV visited Türkiye on his first foreign apostolic trip, he met Mor Aphrem at the Mor Ephrem Syriac Orthodox Church in Istanbul. Together they prayed and gathered with other church leaders to discuss how they might work together to promote peace in the world. After the meeting, Mor Aphrem sat down exclusively with EWTN’s Colm Flynn for a one-on-one interview, in which they discussed the Pope’s visit to Turkey and the situation facing Christians living in the Middle East today.
