On May 6, the anniversary of the Sack of Rome in 1527, the Pontifical Swiss Guard remembers the sacrifice of the guards who gave their lives defending Pope Clement VII. On this day of history, faith, and tradition, 28 new halberdiers will swear to serve faithfully, loyally, and honorably the Holy Father and his legitimate successors.

The ceremony is marked by solemnity and celebration, with the Swiss Guards wearing their Grand Gala uniform, a symbol of their mission to protect the Pope and serve the Church.
