Discover the life and legacy of Saint Theophanes the Confessor and Hymnographer, the holy Bishop of Nicaea, commemorated on October 11th.
This video recounts his steadfast faith during the iconoclastic persecutions, his suffering for the defense of the holy icons, and his remarkable contribution to Orthodox hymnography.

Born into a noble and educated family, Saint Theophanes and his brother Saint Theodore the Branded dedicated their lives to God through learning, prayer, and the defense of the faith. They boldly opposed the iconoclast emperors—Leo the Armenian, Michael II, and Theophilus—and suffered imprisonment, hunger, torture, and branding for their beliefs.

Even after exile, Theophanes continued his holy work, later becoming Bishop of Nicaea, and composing over 150 canons, including a profound Canon in Defense of Holy Icons.
He fell asleep in the Lord around the year 850 A.D., leaving a shining example of courage, holiness, and devotion.
