A new study suggests the drop in the U.S. fertility rate is in part because of the rise of smartphone culture. The findings are from the National Bureau of Economic Research and appear to validate what Catholic social scientists have long thought: There is a connection between the advent of widespread cellphone use in 2007 and the subsequent plunge in birth rates. Catholic author Tim Carney and University of Virginia professor Brad Wilcox go inside the numbers of this important study and examine ways to reverse the trend, including how Pope Leo XIV and Catholic schools can help.
