Pope Leo XIV has officially taken possession of the Archbasilica of St. John Lateran, the cathedral of the Bishop of Rome and Mother of all Churches. This historic event marks the full beginning of his pontificate, symbolizing his role as shepherd of the universal Church.
Following tradition, Pope Leo XIV visited the four Major Papal Basilicas in Rome—St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Paul Outside the Walls, and St. Mary Major—each with unique spiritual significance. He venerated the relics of Saints Peter and Paul and prayed before the Marian icon Salus Populi Romani, emphasizing his commitment to apostolic tradition and Marian devotion.
