Democrats quickly pushed back. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer accused Trump of lying about the jobs report, while Senator Jeff Merkley warned of “Trumpflation.” Meanwhile, the Director of the White House National Economic Council says trillions of dollars in new tariffs will help balance the budget, stating that inflation numbers are the lowest in five years.
