Saint Dominic was born in Spain in the year 1170 and is the founder of one of the greatest religious orders in the history of the Church: the Dominicans. As a university student, Dominic sold everything he had and bought food for the poor. He also attempted to sell himself into slavery to obtain the freedom of others. Following his formal education, he joined the Augustinians. After ordination, he led the normal life of a priest for seven years, with a strong devotion to prayer and penance which would become the hallmarks of his life and ministry.
