The British government has suspended free trade talks with Israel, citing what it calls “egregious” policies in Gaza. U.K. Foreign Secretary David Lammy reaffirmed support for Israel’s security but warned that the conduct of the war is straining government ties. This follows Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s remarks calling the suffering of children in Gaza “utterly intolerable.” Meanwhile, dozens have been killed after another night of Israeli airstrikes, including strikes on a school-turned-shelter and a family home, as Israel intensifies operations aimed at pressuring Hamas to release hostages. Israeli officials say they are allowing more aid trucks into Gaza. In Iran, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei criticized U.S. rhetoric amid ongoing indirect talks, insisting that Iran will not seek permission to pursue its Islamic Republican policy. This comes as indirect talks are being held between the U.S. and Iran regarding a nuclear deal, even as the supreme leader expresses doubt about the outcome.
