In today’s reverent Homily, the celebrant reflects on the "heavenly care" and peace that the Lord bestows upon His people. Drawing from the dedication of Solomon's Temple, we are reminded that God desires to dwell among us, not in a distant or hidden way, but as a source of "holiness" and "strength" for our daily journey. The Homily invites us to "see what must be done" in our own lives, finding the courage to act through the grace we receive at this sacred altar. Just as the crowds in Gennesaret sought the mere touch of Jesus’ tassel, we too are called to approach the Lord with deep faith, knowing He is always ready to restore and heal us.
The Scriptures highlight the dwelling of God’s glory and the urgency of His mercy:
-The First Reading (1 Kings 8:1-7, 9-13): King Solomon assembles the elders of Israel to bring the Ark of the Covenant to the newly built Temple in Jerusalem. As the priests place the Ark in the Holy of Holies, a cloud fills the house of the Lord, signifying that the glory of the Lord has come to dwell in His "stately home" forever.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 132): A liturgical cry for the Lord’s presence: "Lord, go up to the place of your rest!".
-The Holy Gospel (Mark 6:53-56): Jesus and His disciples land at Gennesaret, where He is immediately recognized. People from throughout the countryside scurry to bring the sick on mats to wherever He is. They beg to touch even the tassel of his cloak, and all who touch it are healed.
May this Divine Sustenance cleanse us of our faults and strengthen us in our service to God and neighbor.
