Matthew 18: 15 - 20

Those who correct us don't do it because they think they are better than us but because they think we can be better... They love us and so they want us to be better.

At the beginning of chapter 18 Matthew writes: «Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.»

Children learn so quickly because they know they don’t know and so, they allow themselves to be corrected.

Toni Nadal – Rafa Nadal’s uncle and his coach – explained in an interview: «Allowing oneself to be corrected has been fundamental to Rafa’s career. Being open to advice is a sign of intelligence. Only fools think they know it all.» And in the same interview he said, «Be wary of anyone who isn’t demanding of you».

Saints always find it hard to be corrected. They, too, need a great deal of humility to accept corrections. But if we love people, we need the fortitude to correct them, to make demands of them. And if we want to be saints, we need the humility to allow ourselves to be corrected.
