Fr. Chad Ripperger traces how fear connects to nearly every other vice, using St. Thomas Aquinas' concept of the "daughters of vices" to show how one weakness reveals another underneath it.

He explains why chronic fear produces anxiety, a chain reaction he sees playing out at a societal level through media and political fearmongering.

Fr. Ripperger also explains the crucial distinction St. John of the Cross draws between love (willing the good of another) and attachment (an unhealthy fixation), including his own struggle to detach from an unhealthy fixation on the state of the Church and the state of the country.
