Did you know that one of the earliest recorded Marian apparitions comes from the Church Fathers—long before Nicaea?
In this short, I explore a remarkable account preserved by St Gregory of Nyssa, describing how Our Lady appeared with St John the Evangelist to St Gregory Thaumaturgus in the 3rd century. Newly ordained as a bishop and seeking clarity about the mystery of the Trinity, Gregory received a Trinitarian creedal formula—decades before the Council of Nicaea would define it formally.
According to Gregory of Nyssa, this creed was engraved on a stone tablet and preserved in a church, a tangible witness to the deep continuity of Marian devotion, apostolic teaching, and Trinitarian faith in the early Church.
An extraordinary glimpse into the faith of the Church Fathers—and the role of Our Lady in guarding the truth handed down from the Apostles.
