The Commemoration of the Dedication of the Church of the Resurrection (Holy Sepulchre) in Jerusalem is observed on September 13th. This feast recalls the consecration of the holy temple built by St. Constantine the Great and his mother, Empress St. Helen, on the site of Christ’s crucifixion, burial, and glorious resurrection.

After the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. and the pagan desecrations under Emperor Hadrian, the sacred places of the Passion were obscured. Yet, through divine providence, St. Helen uncovered the True Cross and restored these holy sites to Christian worship. The Church of the Resurrection, also known as the Holy Sepulchre, became the greatest Christian sanctuary, encompassing both Golgotha and the Tomb of Christ.

This commemoration is not only a historical remembrance but also a spiritual renewal, reminding us of the victory of Christ over death and the eternal hope given to all believers.
