Are we living in the end times? Is the rapture coming soon? Christian TikTok and YouTube have been flooded with warnings about the end of the world, rapture predictions, prophetic timelines, and fear-driven interpretations of Scripture. But what does the Catholic Church actually teach about the end of the world, Bible prophecy, and the Second Coming of Christ?
In this week’s episode of Unpacking the Sunday Scriptures, we dive deep into the Mass readings for the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, exploring the powerful themes of perseverance, hope, judgment, renewal, and faith. This is not a message of fear. It is a message of courage. The readings from Malachi, Psalm 98, 2 Thessalonians, and Luke 21:5–19 remind us that the end times are not about panic but about preparation, virtue, and trust in God’s promises.
We break down how Jesus speaks about wars, natural disasters, persecution, and upheaval, and how all of these signs point not to despair but to the nearness of redemption. The Church wants us to understand that true Christian hope is not wishful thinking but a deep, unshakeable confidence that God will do exactly what He promised.
This week invites us to stay rooted, stay faithful, and keep our eyes fixed on Christ as we move toward the great feast of Christ the King. The liturgy forms us week by week, shaping our hearts through conversion, perseverance, and the theological virtue of hope.
If you want to grow in your faith, understand Scripture through the lens of the Catholic Church, and deepen your spiritual life through the Mass, this series is for you. Subscribe, journey with me each week, and let’s go further up and further into the heart of Christ.
