What is the Transfiguration of Jesus, and why does it matter? In this Catholic Bible study, we’re breaking down the Transfiguration of Christ, Jesus’ glory, the divine light on the mountain, and how this moment reveals Him as the Son of God and the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets.
Honey, this story is WILD.
Jesus goes up a mountain with Peter, James, and John, His face changes, His clothes become dazzling white, Moses and Elijah appear, a glory cloud overshadows them, and then the voice of God speaks.
That is a lot.
But the Transfiguration is not just some random dramatic moment in the New Testament. It reveals Christ’s majesty, points to the New Covenant, and gives us a glimpse of the glory to come through His Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension.
We’re also getting into:
Why Moses and Elijah appear with Jesus
How Jesus fulfills the Law and the Prophets
The connection between the Transfiguration and the Exodus
The glory cloud and divine revelation
The Greek word episkiazo, meaning “to overshadow”
The connection between Mary, the Annunciation, and the Assumption
Why the Transfiguration gives us hope for our own resurrection
This is Christianity explained for regular people, especially converts, reverts, and Catholics who grew up around these stories but never really stopped to ask what they mean.
Because understanding your faith does not have to be boring, honey. I’m trying to get to Heaven, become a saint, and take as many of y’all with me as possible. So grab your Bible, sit down, and let’s talk about the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
