On September 4, 1967, amid a brutal offensive in South Vietnam, Father Vincent Capodanno—a chaplain to U.S. Marines—ran toward gunfire to anoint, absolve, comfort, and drag the wounded to safety. Bleeding and badly injured, he refused evacuation: “Go to my boys. They need more help.” Moments later, he was killed while shielding and aiding the fallen—rosary in hand.
This homily retells just half a day in the life of Servant of God Vincent Capodanno, a Staten Island native baptized at St. Michael’s Parish (Mariners Harbor, NY). It also explains how the Church marks a path toward canonization and invites us to ask his intercession, seek courage for our own vocations, and remember his witness every time we pass the baptistry where his journey in grace began.
What you’ll hear:
The timeline of Sept 4, 1967: the pre-dawn attack, the wounded, and a chaplain who wouldn’t stay behind.
Father Capodanno’s relentless ministry under fire—confession, anointing, calm in chaos, and carrying the wounded.
Why the Church prays “Mass of the Holy Spirit” for his cause, and how public memory fuels canonization.
A new image and dedicatory plaque at the parish baptistry—marking the place he was baptized.
A practical call: Ask. Remember. Share. Miracles are sought through intercession, and courage is given for our vocations.
How to help the cause (simple steps):
Pray and ask for Father Capodanno’s intercession—for conversions, healings, and courage.
Share this video with family, veterans, and parish communities.
Comment your intentions or any graces received through his intercession (so others can pray too).
Subscribe for updates on his cause and future talks.
🙏 Prayer (short):
Servant of God Father Vincent Capodanno, pray for us. Obtain for us the courage to answer God’s call and to love without counting the cost. Amen.
