At the Funeral Requiem Mass of his mother, Joyce Elaine Ripperger, Fr. Chad Ripperger delivers a deeply personal sermon on Catholic motherhood, the transmission of the Faith, and a mother’s sacred responsibility to help lead her children to Heaven.

Father reflects on how his mother taught him his prayers, the Rosary, the Baltimore Catechism, preparation for Confession and Holy Communion, Catholic morality, devotion to the saints, prayer for the dead, modesty, sacrifice, and fidelity to the perennial teachings of the Catholic Church.

Fr. Ripperger explains that mothers are among the principal instruments through which Catholic tradition is handed from one generation to the next. He credits his own mother with laying the foundation for much of the Catholic faith and tradition he would later teach publicly.

Above all, this Requiem sermon is a son’s tribute to the woman who taught him that nothing in this life matters more than saving one’s soul and reaching Heaven.
