Is the Church leading, or just listening?
Recent comments from members of the consistory, including liturgical remarks from Cardinal Arthur Roche and preaching from Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, have reignited debate over the direction of synodality.
We are told there will be more listening, more decentralization, more consultation. But critics ask: does that listening apply equally to everyone? For example, to Catholics attached to the traditional Latin liturgy?
Meanwhile, serious developments continue elsewhere: the ongoing tensions surrounding episcopal appointments in China, discussions within the German synodal process, and reports that the Society of Saint Pius X may consecrate bishops of its own.
With so much in motion, the central question remains: will Rome clarify and teach with missionary confidence—or continue to prioritize consultation? Does the current approach inspire confidence in you?
