Parents at St. Hubert Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Chicago are continuing their fight to keep the school open after the archdiocese announced that the school was no longer sustainable. Although parents tried to fundraise, they were not able to raise enough money in time. However, parents have made an appeal to the Vatican in order to keep the school open. Laura Morrison, a licensed civil attorney with a doctorate in canon law who serves as counsel to the families, and Jillian Bernas Garcia, a mother of two students currently enrolled at St. Hubert’s, explain the procedure of appealing to the Vatican, the rights the parents have, the possible outcomes, and when a verdict is likely to be announced.
