With nearly five dozen active conflicts worldwide, the Church urges the faithful to pray and fast for peace on August 14. Ongoing crises include the three-year war between Russia and Ukraine, worsening starvation in Gaza, and violence in Haiti. While immediate solutions are scarce, there is hope in the power of prayer. The International Union of Superiors General (UISG) has called on the global Church to unite in prayer and fasting on August 14, invoking the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace, ahead of the Feast of the Assumption. Sister Roxanne Schares, Associate Executive Secretary of the UISG, emphasizes the strength found in communal prayer and highlights that this deep yearning for peace, expressed through prayer, inspires action amid global turmoil.
