In 1979, St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta stood before the world to accept the Nobel Peace Prize.

And she pointed people straight back to the words of Jesus in Matthew 25.

Christ identifies Himself with the hungry, the poor, the homeless, the forgotten, and the unloved:

“Whatever you did to the least of these… you did it to me.”

Mother Teresa understood that Christianity cannot remain an idea.

If we love Jesus, that love has to become visible.

In the way we serve.

In the way we give.

In the way we notice the person everyone else overlooks.

In the way we treat the person who can give us absolutely nothing in return.

She said that when we turn our backs on the poor, we are turning our backs on Christ, because He has chosen to identify Himself with them. (Nobel Prize⁠)

And maybe the challenge for us isn’t always to go looking for some enormous act of charity.

Maybe it starts with asking:

Who has God already placed in front of me that needs to be loved?

Because Jesus told us exactly where we could find Him.

“Whatever you did to the least of these… you did it to me.” — Matthew 25:40
