On August 25th, EWTN posted a clip of Archbishop Sheen reciting Teilhard's "Mass on the World": "I am going to spread my hands over the entire universe and take its immensity as the matter of my sacrifice." Two days later, after a wave of criticism, the post was gone with no explanation. On September 21 Hugh Owen of the Kolbe Center said the Church had a duty to confront Sheen's embrace of Teilhard's evolutionary theology before Thursday. Mark Lambert, co-host of Catholic Unscripted, and Joe take the question head-on: what Sheen actually wrote about Teilhard, what the Holy Office's 1962 monitum actually says, whether a Blessed can have been wrong, and what the Trad turn against Sheen says about the rest of us. Archbishop Sheen will be beatified Thursday, September 24, at the Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, with Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle presiding.
