Pope Leo XIV sent a prerecorded message to participants in the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage, which aired at the closing Mass in Philadelphia. Marking America's 250th anniversary, the Holy Father encouraged pilgrims to look beyond civic celebration to the source of Christian strength and renewal: the Eucharist. The six-week pilgrimage concluded with a two-mile Eucharistic procession through Philadelphia, where hundreds walked from the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul to the Shrine of St. John Neumann in 100-degree heat. EWTN News reporter Mark Irons joined the procession.
