This Catholic reflection for the feast of St. Thomas Aquinas explores the saint’s famous prayer, “Nothing but You, O Lord,” and invites us to ask God to purify and reorder our desires.
Fr. Joseph-Anthony Kress, O.P., reflects on one of the most striking moments in the life of St. Thomas Aquinas: when the Lord offers him a reward, and Thomas responds with a single desire—nothing but the Lord himself.
Through the intercession of St. Thomas Aquinas, Dominican friar and Doctor of the Church, we are invited to examine our own hearts and ask that our desires may be purified, reordered, and directed toward God alone. St. Thomas teaches us that the deepest desire of the human heart is not success, knowledge, or recognition, but God himself.
Please know that we are praying for you as friars, and we ask you to pray for us on this feast day of our brother, St. Thomas Aquinas.
