At his Sunday Angelus, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the Gospel meal at the house of a Pharisee and the freedom that comes through humility. He warned against the trap of constantly seeking recognition and comparing ourselves to others, a competition that leaves us anxious and insecure.
True freedom, he said, is born when we see ourselves through God’s eyes and recognize our dignity as His children. Humility is not weakness but strength, freeing us from rivalry and opening us to love, justice, and peace.
“Those who exalt themselves think of nothing but themselves, yet deep down they are insecure. But those who know they are precious in God’s eyes find true dignity.”
