Five holy women chose Christ over life itself.

On June 9, the Church commemorates the holy virgin martyrs Thecla, Mariamne, Martha, Mary, and Ennatha, who suffered during the persecution of Christians under the Persian King Shapur II in the 4th century.

These consecrated virgins had dedicated their lives, wealth, and purity to God. Entrusting their earthly possessions to a priest named Paul, they sought only the treasures of Heaven. Yet when persecution came, Paul chose riches over Christ and apostatized. The five holy women refused to deny their Savior.

Rather than betray the Faith, Saints Thecla, Mariamne, Martha, Mary, and Ennatha courageously accepted martyrdom and received eternal crowns of glory from Christ.

Their witness reminds us that earthly wealth passes away, but fidelity to Our Lord endures forever.
