After 16 years of leading one of the largest dioceses in America, Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s resignation as Archbishop of New York has been accepted by Pope Leo. The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Ronald Hicks of the Diocese of Joliet, Illinois, to replace him. Cardinal Dolan and Bishop Hicks appeared together at a press conference at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan, where Bishop Hicks expressed gratitude for the appointment and enthusiasm for serving the Church in New York City. Jonathan Liedl, senior editor of the National Catholic Register, shares more about Bishop Hicks, his leadership style, and the challenges he will face in this new role.
