Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow is back with the BeatiDudes to share the story behind Lettie, a new documentary from Mary’s Meals that follows one young woman whose life was transformed through the simple gift of a daily meal at school. Magnus reflects on the danger of letting a mission as large as Mary’s Meals become only about numbers, targets, and scale, when the heart of the work is always the life of an individual child. Letty was first encountered in Malawi as a 12-year-old orphan caring for her younger brothers in heartbreaking poverty. Years later, after being enrolled in a school served by Mary’s Meals, she became an excellent student, went on to college, and now works for Mary’s Meals as a gifted communicator and leader.

The conversation also explores how the documentary gives Lettie the agency to tell her own story, including her first trip outside Malawi to Medjugorje, where she speaks to a massive youth festival about her life, her faith, and the impact of Mary’s Meals. Magnus describes Lettie as one of many young people in “Generation Hope,” the thousands of former Mary’s Meals recipients who are now working, leading, starting businesses, and giving back. For Magnus, the story of Lettie is evidence that this work is not merely a feeding program, but a work of love rooted in relationship, dignity, and hope.
