I love movies. I always have. But in 2026, Hollywood feels completely incapable of making anything new that’s actually worth watching—especially if you’re a parent who just wants a clean, family-safe Friday movie night.

So here’s what happened: Brock and I log into Disney+ to throw on a classic for our 10-month-old, and right there on the homepage is a show called Dying for Sex. On. Disney. Plus. For families. That is where we’re at.

Then we dive into the bigger pattern: Hollywood’s obsession with remakes, race-swaps, and rewriting the meaning of stories people have loved for generations—from Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey casting choices, to Greta Gerwig’s Netflix Narnia rumors (yes, Aslan potentially voiced by Meryl Streep), to the new Animal Farm film that appears to blur Orwell’s clear warning about communism into a “both sides” critique that conveniently lets the villains off the hook.

We need better options for our kids. We need creators with courage. And honestly? We might all need to start buying VHS players again.
