Hamas recently announced the release of Edan Alexander, an American-Israeli hostage who had been held in Gaza for over 19 months. This release, a goodwill gesture towards President Donald Trump, would be the first since Israel ended a ceasefire with Hamas. Israel is in its third month of blocking all humanitarian aid from Gaza, raising concerns about the potential for a humanitarian crisis, with fears of famine in Gaza if aid is not allowed to enter soon. To provide insight, Ghaith Al-Omari, a Middle East expert and senior fellow at the Washington Institute, shares his reaction to Hamas' release of its hostage and the timing of it. He explores the possibility of a renewed ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, what to expect from President Trump's upcoming Middle East trip, and whether his decision to not stop in Israel is significant.
