Catholic Unscripted is changing — but the heart of what we do remains the same.

In this conversation, Katherine Bennett and Mark Lambert share some exciting news about the next chapter of the channel as Catholic Unscripted becomes Regina Unscripted, in partnership with Regina Magazine.

Ahead of the official launch on 7 October, we explain what the change means, what will stay the same, and some of the new content, events, pilgrimages and opportunities we hope the partnership will make possible.

We also discuss some of what is already in the pipeline, including our new Popecast, documentaries, interviews and a renewed focus on building a genuine Catholic community around the channel.

But, as often happens with an unscripted conversation, we soon wander into deeper territory.

With the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen taking place, we discuss his extraordinary legacy as a Catholic communicator and evangelist, as well as some of the criticism surrounding aspects of his record. How should Catholics understand the imperfections of holy men and women? Do we sometimes look at saints only as the finished article and forget the long process by which grace transforms a human life?

That leads Mark to remember Susan Griffin, a much-loved 91-year-old member of his parish whose funeral he had attended the previous day. Her life provides a beautiful example of an ordinary Catholic faith lived extraordinarily well: love of the Church, devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, service to others, family life, suffering and a willingness to carry the Cross.

We reflect on the Catholic understanding that grace perfects nature, on what it means to “suffer well”, and on the distinctly Catholic — and perhaps particularly Irish Catholic — ability to speak naturally about death while keeping eternity firmly in view.
