The outrage over this tweet is missing the point entirely.

Today, 30+% of graduate students at UT Austin are international. That jumps to more than 60% for engineering students. At an elite, public, AMERICAN university your AMERICAN tax dollars fund... taking spaces from hardworking American engineering students.

Across the 8 campuses of the Ivy League, 25+% of all students (undergrad & grad) are international. At Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, more than 50% of students are not American citizens. Columbia's entire student population is made up of 40% foreigners, and in 5 of their professional and graduate schools, more than 50% of students are foreign nationals.

It is not racist to believe that hardworking American students should be prioritized for positions at American universities and workplaces over foreigners--especially as your tax dollars and government grants you already paid for fund these institutions.

& the failure of FAR too many people in politics to realize this or just run to assume it's somehow a "white supremacist" talking point will prove to be a MASSIVE problem in upcoming elections.

& no... wearing a cowboy hat & cheering at an American football game doesn't mean you've fully assimilated into life as an American citizen.
