Gideon Lazar grew up in a Jewish family. Our Lady of Fatima is the reason he is Catholic today.

Gideon Lazar was raised Jewish, baptized in 2018 and received into the Catholic Church. He holds a BA from The Catholic University of America, is pursuing an MA in theology at Boston College, coordinates the St. Basil Institute for the Theology of Creation, edits the Creation Theology Fellowship, and runs the Byzantine Scotist YouTube channel. On today's show he gives Joe the short version of the story he told at length on Matt Fradd's Pints With Aquinas — how a Jewish scholar ended up at the feet of Our Lady of Fatima.

Earlier in the hour, Nick Cavazos of The Traditional Thomist marks one year to the day since Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Tyler Robinson, 22, was ordered to stand trial on September 1, 2026 and has pleaded not guilty; prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Joe and Nick look honestly at what has gotten worse in the year since — and at what did not. Newman Ministry reported roughly a 15 percent rise in Mass attendance across more than 200 campus ministries. Erika Kirk stood in front of the country at her husband's memorial and said of his accused killer, "I forgive him." And in Prague, Cardinal Dominik Duka offered a Requiem Mass for Kirk and was publicly criticized for it.
