One of the first people to die on 9/11 was a Catholic priest.

Father Mychal Judge was a Franciscan friar and chaplain to the New York City Fire Department.

When the firefighters were called to the World Trade Center, he went with them.

While thousands were trying to get out…

he was going in.

Into the smoke.
Into the chaos.
Into the suffering.

He stayed with the men he was called to serve, prayed with them, and brought the presence of Christ into one of the darkest moments in American history.

He never made it back out alive.

And 25 years later, his witness still asks something of us.

Most of us will never be asked to run into a burning skyscraper.

But we will all encounter people who are hurting, afraid, grieving, or carrying a cross.

The question is whether we keep our distance…

or whether we enter into their suffering with them.

Maybe “never forget” means more than remembering how people died.

Maybe it also means remembering how some people chose to live.

Today, pray for Father Mychal Judge.

Pray for every innocent victim of 9/11.

Pray for every firefighter, police officer, first responder, and family whose life changed forever that morning.
