The Canon of Scripture was formulated over the first few centuries.
Following St. Athanasius of Alexandria's initial list of the Canon in 367 A.D., the Council of Rome in 382 (presided over by Pope Damasus I) confirmed the modern Canon the Catholic Church uses today.
The councils of North Africa in 393, 397, and 419 (all attended by St. Augustine) all confirmed the findings of the Council of Rome.
Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Canon was compiled and remains unchanged since the time of the early Church.
