Friends, at the time of the Nicene Creed’s formulation, Christians had been teaching, preaching, and theologizing about Jesus for almost three centuries.
In many ways, the Nicene declaration represents a summary and distillation of that long process of reflection.
To celebrate the Creed’s 1700th anniversary, I joined His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael Symeonides of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago at Ss. Kosmas and Damianos Greek Orthodox Church in Rochester, Minnesota.
There, I spoke of Christ’s centrality during the Council of Nicaea. Indeed, throughout the ages, all distinctively Christian faith begins and ends with Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God.
