St. Mark the Apostle and Evangelist, commemorated on April 25th, was one of the 70 Apostles and a close companion of Saints Peter, Paul, and Barnabas. Known as the author of the Gospel of Mark, his life is a powerful witness to the spread of Christianity in the early Church.

Born in Jerusalem, St. Mark’s home became a gathering place for the first Christians. He traveled extensively with the apostles, preaching the Gospel in Cyprus, Rome, and Egypt. In Alexandria, he established one of the most influential Christian centers in the ancient world, founding a school that would shape great saints and theologians.

St. Mark is symbolized by the lion, representing the royal dignity and power of Christ. His Gospel emphasizes the divine authority of Jesus Christ and the miraculous works accomplished through Him.

After converting many to Christianity, St. Mark suffered persecution and ultimately martyrdom in Alexandria, where he gave his life for Christ. His legacy continues to inspire Christians around the world.
