Pope Leo XIV's First Curial Appointment is a Woman!
Pope Leo XIV has made his first curial appointment, and it’s a moment of real significance in the history of the Catholic Church. In this video, we take a close look at the groundbreaking decision to appoint Sr. Tiziana Merletti, former Superior General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, as Secretary of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
Sr. Tiziana will serve under Sr. Simona Brambilla, who was named Prefect of the Dicastery in January 2025 — making her the first woman ever to lead a Vatican dicastery.
With two women now at the helm of this major office, Pope Leo XIV continues to shape a curia that reflects both reform and a renewed openness to women's leadership in the Church.
