Meditation 7 of the Traditional Christmas Novena – December 22
In this profound and moving Catholic meditation for the Christmas Novena, we reflect on the sorrow caused to Jesus by the ingratitude of men. Drawing upon Sacred Scripture, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Bernardine of Siena, and Blessed Henry Suso, this meditation invites us to contemplate the heartbreaking truth expressed in St. John’s Gospel:
“He came unto His own, and His own received Him not.” (John 1:11)
Even from the moment of His Incarnation, Our Lord foresaw the cold response of humanity to His infinite love. He descended from Heaven to ignite divine charity in our hearts—yet so many would repay love with indifference, sin, and rejection.
This meditation is especially suited for:
Advent and Christmas prayer
The traditional Christmas Novena (Dec 16–24)
Reparation for sins and ingratitude
Quiet mental prayer and reflection
May this meditation move us to sorrow for our past ingratitude and inflame our hearts with deeper love for the Infant Jesus, who came to suffer and die so that we might love Him.
🕯️ “Love is not loved.” — St. Francis of Assisi
🙏 O Mary, our Queen and Mother, help us to be grateful to the God who has loved us so much.
