In 2017, Mark McLean was diagnosed with a life-threatening brain tumor. He underwent multiple operations. Before one of the surgeries, he received the last rites. His wife, Dorothy, prayed the Rosary on the way to the hospital, asking that, if there were a miracle, Mark would be healed. She also asked that he would at least recognize her after surgery.

It was October 13, 2017, the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima's final apparition. When Dorothy entered the ICU, Mark recognized her despite being on a respirator. Delirious and agitated, he repeatedly shouted: "Her Immaculate Heart will triumph." He continued repeating the phrase over the following days.

Mark's surgeon later expressed surprise that he had avoided the paralysis that often results from such an operation. He called Mark's condition "almost miraculous." Dorothy interpreted it as a reason to give credit to Our Lady.
