I used to think I understood the love of God. Raised in the Protestant world, I heard it preached from every pulpit—whether Baptist, Reformed, Evangelical, or Charismatic. But no matter the denomination, one thing remained the same: the love of God was filtered through the lens of penal substitution and imputed righteousness. It was either a legal fiction or a selective love based solely on election.
In this video, I explore how both liberal Protestantism and Reformed theology miss the fullness of God’s love—one by making it permissive and powerless, the other by making it conditional and exclusive.
But the Catholic view changed everything.
I discovered a love that is both just and merciful, sacrificial and demanding. A love that doesn’t just cover our sins—but transforms us. Through the sacraments, through suffering united with Christ, and through a real participation in divine life, Catholicism offers the complete picture of what it means to be loved by God—and to love Him in return.
If you’ve ever wrestled with God’s love—or wondered what it really means to love as a Christian—this video is for you.
