We need beauty standards back! Over the recent years, there has been an effort to remove beauty standards which have been labelled as oppressive and regressive, or as nonsensical since beauty is "in the eye of the beholder." But removing beauty standards didn't make us neutral or more fair, rather it created a cult of ugliness.
Contemporary art celebrates the disturbing, the broken, the deliberately offensive. Architecture became brutalist concrete boxes. Music became discordant noise. What resulted wasn't just the absence of beauty, but beauty's deliberate opposite.
